Studio Use and Hygiene

Hygiene

Clean Hands: Please have your student wash their hands with soap and water in my bathroom before playing on the piano.  Clean and germ-free hands show respect for the other students using the piano.

Nail Condition: Please make sure your nails are trimmed twice a week, so they are short each time you practice. For parents of small children, please help them maintain their nails as specified.

Bathroom use

Parents, please accompany small children (siblings of students) while using my bathroom, and remind your children to leave the bathroom in the same condition they found it.  Keeping the studio bathroom clean shows courtesy to Melissa and other students who also use the bathroom.

Shoe Policy

Please remove your shoes before entering the studio and leave the shoes on the porch if the soles have dirt or mud on them.

Early Arrivals

If you arrive early and Melissa is still teaching another student, please wait quietly and be respectful of their lesson time. If you arrive early and Melissa is not in the piano room, please wash your hands and wait for her to start the lesson. She may be using the restroom, eating a snack, or communicating with family members, but will start your lesson at the scheduled time.

Parent Communications

If a parent needs to communicate with Melissa during the lesson, please come over to the piano during the last five minutes of your student’s lesson and inform her of your desire to communicate.  Too often, parents try to communicate at the end of the lesson which then impedes on the next student’s lesson, putting the entire studio schedule behind. Melissa tries to be mindful of giving all lesson time paid for, and may ask you to either email her or wait until your next lesson to communicate with her if it is interrupting another student’s lesson time.

Sibling Attendance

Lesson time must remain as focused as possible; siblings are welcome to attend provided they remain still and quiet.  It is distracting for Melissa and students to listen to siblings walking/running/jumping and making various noises during a lesson.  Please take the initiative to remove a sibling from the studio should this situation begin to arise. Please note that the home/studio is not baby/toddler proof.

Parking & Driving Regulations

Parking Regulations: Please park only in the studio driveway, far to the right or left to allow multiple drivers to pick up & drop off students. Out of respect for City of Woodinville & HOA regulations, please do not park in front of any houses or in the cul de sac.

Drive Slowly: Please drive slowly through Melissa’s neighborhood. There are many small children who play in the street.

Pick-up Times: Parents should pick up their child promptly at the end of their lesson. Parking is very limited and this will help make space in the driveway for the next arriving students.

Video/Photo Release

During lessons and performances, Melissa reserves the right to use video recording or take photographs of students for use in lesson demonstration, advertising materials, and studio owned websites. Photos taken by Melissa are the property of the studio and can be used at Melissa’s discretion, per online safety rules.

Melissa and the studio will not assume liability for personal property, including theft or accidental damage. Additionally, Melissa and her family cannot be held liable for any injury incurred on her house property. Students and parents must agree to be responsible for their own safety and their children’s safety. Students and their families should respect Melissa’s personal property and the family space within her home away from the piano.
